Frequently Asked Questions

5 Questions
How to avoid scams when buying retail equipment in Tanzania?
Meet sellers in person, inspect equipment thoroughly, and avoid paying large sums upfront via M-Pesa before seeing the item. Verify seller ID and business registration if possible. Compare prices; TZS 650,000 is the low end, TZS 1,900,000 the high end.
What power requirements should I check for retail equipment?
Confirm voltage compatibility (230V in Tanzania) and check power consumption to avoid overloads, especially with frequent power outages. Ask about surge protection features. Consider a generator if power is unreliable in your area. Check for TBS certification.
Are spare parts readily available for retail equipment in Tanzania?
Inquire about spare parts availability and service centers before buying. Imported equipment may have longer lead times for parts. Ask the seller if they offer maintenance services or can recommend local technicians. This is crucial for long-term ROI.
What's the typical ROI timeframe for retail equipment in Tanzania?
ROI depends on usage and business volume. Calculate potential revenue increase from the equipment. Factor in electricity costs, maintenance, and potential downtime. For example, equipment costing TZS 1,275,000 should generate enough profit to cover costs within a reasonable timeframe.
What compliance certifications are needed for retail equipment?
Check for TBS (Tanzania Bureau of Standards) certification to ensure equipment meets safety and quality standards. Imported equipment may require additional import permits. Verify with TRA (Tanzania Revenue Authority) for import duties.
